What is AppleSpell on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Checks spelling and grammar as you type, in every app that uses the system spell checker.

AppleSpell is the system spelling and grammar service. Apps send it text to check, and it returns suggestions and corrections. It's busier when you type a lot or open long documents with checking turned on.

What to do

  1. 1Wait for long documents to finish checking
  2. 2Turn off grammar checking in the app's Edit > Spelling and Grammar menu
  3. 3Force quit AppleSpell; it relaunches when needed
