What is lsd on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Launch Services: knows which apps are installed and which app opens which file type.

lsd provides Launch Services, the part of macOS that keeps a database of installed apps, which app opens which kind of file or link, and app icons and identities. Apple says it must not be terminated. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with drugs; it's simply short for Launch Services daemon.

Apple says it must not be terminated; opening apps and files depends on it.
