What is mediaanalysisd on Mac?

Analyses images and video for features like Live Text, Visual Look Up and photo search.
mediaanalysisd analyses images and video to power features such as Live Text (selecting text in pictures), Visual Look Up (identifying plants, landmarks and more) and searching your photos. Much of the work runs on your Mac using the Neural Engine; Visual Look Up can also contact Apple's servers to fetch results. It's busiest after updates or when lots of new media arrives.

Why is mediaanalysisd using so much CPU or memory?
- Analysing a large photo library or many new photos and videos
- After a macOS or Photos update
- Syncing with iCloud Photos
- Using Visual Look Up or Live Text on images

- 1Leave the Mac plugged in and idle (for example overnight) so analysis can finish
- 2Quit the Photos app while you work
- 3Restart your Mac if it stays very high for days
