What is sysmond on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

The system monitor daemon that supplies process statistics to tools like Activity Monitor.

sysmond is Apple's system monitor daemon. It gathers statistics about running processes, such as CPU and memory use, for monitoring tools including Activity Monitor. It's busier when such tools are open and refreshing often, which is expected.

Why is sysmond using so much CPU or memory?

  • Activity Monitor or other monitoring tools open and refreshing frequently
  • A very large number of running processes

What to do

  1. 1Close monitoring tools you aren't using, or lower their update frequency
  2. 2Restart your Mac if it stays busy with no monitor open

Safe to quit? With care.

It relaunches when needed; monitoring tools may briefly show no data.
