What is Taskglass on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

The app you're using right now: it measures your Mac and explains what it finds.

Taskglass samples CPU, memory, energy and temperatures and keeps a small local history. TaskglassHelper is its optional, read-only helper that measures macOS's own processes. Neither sends your data anywhere.

Why is Taskglass using so much CPU or memory?

  • The main window or menu bar popover is open, so Taskglass samples every second instead of every 5–10 seconds.
  • The Temperature screen is open, which reads all sensors.

What to do

  1. 1Close the window when you don't need it; Taskglass drops to background sampling automatically.
  2. 2Check its own cost any time at the bottom of the sidebar.

Safe to quit? Yes.

Quitting simply stops monitoring; history already saved stays on your Mac.

Typical usage

Rough ranges on Apple Silicon Macs. Yours will vary.

CPU
About 0.1–0.5% in the background; 1–3% with the window open
Memory
60–120 MB

Taskglass shows what Taskglass is doing on your Mac right now, explains it in plain English, and tells you if it's safe. It does the same for 213 other processes.
