By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Part of Biome, Apple's system for processing app and device activity events used for personalisation.

biomed is the daemon for Biome, an Apple system that processes streams of events about app and device activity in real time for features that subscribe to them, such as suggestions and personalisation. Apple documents it only briefly. It's normally light.

Why is biomed using so much CPU or memory?

  • Processing a backlog of events, for example after a macOS update
  • Lots of app activity

What to do

  1. 1Wait; activity is usually temporary
  2. 2Restart your Mac if it stays busy

Safe to quit? With care.

macOS relaunches it; there's no benefit in quitting it.
