What is SubmitDiagInfo on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Periodically sends diagnostic reports to Apple if you opted in, and cleans up old ones.

SubmitDiagInfo runs periodically. If you've opted in to share diagnostic and usage information, it sends recent reports to Apple; it also cleans up old diagnostic data. It runs briefly and exits.

Why is SubmitDiagInfo using so much CPU or memory?

  • Many crash or diagnostic reports waiting to be sent
  • Cleaning up a large backlog of reports

What to do

  1. 1Let it finish; it runs briefly
  2. 2Change sharing in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements
  3. 3If many reports exist, check Console > Crash Reports for an app that keeps crashing

Safe to quit? With care.

Quitting just postpones it to the next run.
