What is tccd on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Enforces privacy permissions: camera, microphone, screen recording, files, contacts and more.

tccd runs Transparency, Consent and Control (TCC), the system that asks for your permission before apps can use the camera, microphone, screen recording, your contacts, photos, certain folders or Accessibility features. It records your choices and checks them whenever an app asks. You manage these in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Why is tccd using so much CPU or memory?

  • An app repeatedly requesting a permission it doesn't have
  • Many apps checking permissions at once, such as after login
  • Monitoring or automation tools making frequent privacy-protected requests

What to do

  1. 1Answer any pending permission prompt (it may be behind other windows)
  2. 2Review System Settings > Privacy & Security and remove access for apps you don't use
  3. 3Quit apps you've recently granted or denied access to, to find a repeat requester
  4. 4Restart your Mac

Safe to quit? With care.

macOS relaunches it; apps may briefly be denied access to protected data.
