What is UserEventAgent on Mac?

By Junaid, maker of Taskglass · Last reviewed

Reacts to system events like network changes and device connections using Apple's plug-ins.

UserEventAgent loads Apple's system plug-ins that respond to high-level events launchd can't watch directly, such as network changes, devices being connected, or power events, and triggers the right services in response. There's one copy for the system and one per user. It runs constantly and should stay light.

Why is UserEventAgent using so much CPU or memory?

  • Frequent network or Wi-Fi changes
  • A dock, hub or Bluetooth device repeatedly connecting and disconnecting
  • A plug-in reacting to an event over and over

What to do

  1. 1Check whether a dock, hub or loose cable keeps connecting and disconnecting
  2. 2Turn Wi-Fi off and on, or rejoin a network that keeps dropping
  3. 3Restart your Mac

Safe to quit? With care.

macOS relaunches it; some automatic reactions to events may be missed for a moment.
